If you begin bringing your child for treatment at a young age to Brookfield Family Dental Art, Dr. Hassan and her staff can develop substantial knowledge about your child’s oral health and even treat issues before they arise.

When should my child first visit the dentist?

Your child should have their first dentist visit no later than 12 months of age. At this first visit, Dr. Hassan takes a look at your child’s teeth and explains proper brushing and flossing techniques.

It’s important to keep your child’s primary teeth healthy until they’re lost naturally because they help save space for permanent teeth and are involved in speech development.

What causes cavities?

When you don’t practice proper oral health habits with your children, sugars from the food and drinks stick to their teeth, and bacteria begins to feed off the sugar. When the bacteria and sugar combine, they produce acids that attack the tooth’s enamel and create holes in the teeth.

If cavities aren’t treated, they can cause a host of problems, including toothaches, infections, and tooth loss.

How can I help my child avoid cavities?

It’s crucial your child learn the importance of having good oral health so they don’t develop cavities. You can help your child avoid cavities by teaching them early on to brush at least twice a day and floss regularly.

It’s also important to visit the dentist semiannually for a dental exam and routine teeth cleaning. During this visit, Dr. Hassan takes X-rays and checks for any potential dental problems, such as cavities or the need for orthodontics.

If you’re looking for a kind and patient pediatric dentist to help your kids have the best oral health, call Dr. Hassan and her dental team or book your appointment online today.
